How To Use Virtual Appliance

  • Download the virtual machine image suitable for your virtual solution platform.
  • Unpack it and open it in the virtual manager.
  • Boot up the virtual machine and set up your internet browser to use the proxy at the IP address of the machine and port 3128. To find the IP address assigned to the machine log in to it using provided credentials and type ifconfig in the command prompt. The virtual machine has a DHCP configured IP address preinstalled. If you wish to change it to something more suitable for your network see the /etc/networking/interfaces file. In this case you may also need to adjust entries in /etc/resolv.conf to correctly specify your network DNS servers. Also ensure the /etc/squid3/squid.conf contains the corresponding "acl localnet" entry for your network.
  • Try surfing the Internet by pointing the browser to your favorite web sites.
  • Point your browser to http://<IP Address of VA>/ to see filtering statistics and reports of blocking activity of the program.
